Today’s prompt was to write an ‘idea’ poem. I’m sure many of my fellow writers can relate to the burden of having so many fantastic ideas in your head or in the form of scattered notes, but lacking the motivation or the willpower to actually make them into something. And of course, ideas coming at rather inopportune moments! But hopefully you can laugh at this one too…
A Notebook Lies Dormant
It came to him in the shower,
A sudden idea, an epiphany
Just itching to be written.
At risk of forgetting, he leaps out,
Hastily wrapping himself in a towel
And dashing to his disordered desk
While still dripping, he scribbles
Like a madman, making sure
Every last detail is set to paper.
And there he leaves it, waiting
For that elusive day
Where he will sit himself down
And put these pieces together
Into the story he wants to tell.
Until then they lie abandoned
Awaiting the next light-bulb moment.
