Day 25’s prompt: ‘Write an exercise poem’

Guilt Trip to the Gym

Look at the fresh meat
In shiny, sweaty splendour
At this parade of vanity
We know as the local gym.

Lots of new panting faces
Here after their inner coach
Chastised them for Christmas
And bullied them into it.

And still it shouts at them
‘Steamroll that stomach,
So it’s as flat as the pancakes
You keep stuffing in it’.

‘Tone up those twig arms!’
‘Puff out those pecs!’
‘Stretch out that chest
Until it cries out for mercy’.

‘Get some meat on those
Scrawny little chicken legs!
(‘Don’t forget that bit,
Or you’ll look a right tit’)

And so the toil goes on
Until the dawn of spring
When a yawn of lethargy
Drowns the shouting out.
