2016 Nov PAD Chapbook Challenge Day 30 – ‘Last Chance Saloon’

last-chance-saloon

Today’s prompt: Write a ‘last chance’ poem.

An appropriate prompt for the last day of this year’s challenge! Where on earth did this month go? Anyway, without further ado, my final poem of the month:

Last Chance Saloon

It is a tragic sight indeed
To see so many slumped at stools,
Sipping their sorry little lives away,
Bemoaning what they didn’t do,
Rambling about risks untaken
And best-laid plans in disarray.
They could reverse this dismal fate,
Forge a new destination from ruin,
To find yet uncovered fortune.
But instead they still wallow here
Becoming the live-in furniture
In the dusty corners of the Last Chance Saloon.
