Day 15’s Prompt: Write a ‘one time’ poem.
The Woman Left Behind
‘It was just that one time’
Is the simpering excuse
That pours out of a two-timer’s mouth,
But she can’t forgive the ripples
That his careless tongue has caused,
Creating an ocean of deceit between them
Where trust is thrown overboard
And the good times are sunk and lost.
‘One time’ is all it really takes
To well and truly shatter
The stark, grimacing paradise
Of this hollow house they made,
Where one lied through their teeth,
While the other convinced herself
That his hastily-hatched tales were true
When deep down she foresaw it all.
She knew the act before it occurred,
She’d seen all the little clues and signs,
But even still she sadly resigned
To the role of the woman left behind.
