Day 23’s Prompt: Take the phrase “Last (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write your poem.
The Last Ones to Know
It is life’s sensitive souls
That are always the last to know
Of news welcome or crushing
In increasingly indifferent times;
But the first to feel its impact
In a world that has become numb
To once pivotal moments
That held a profound touch,
Now, they just dissipate into the ether,
Only stirring those last bearers of empathy.
